Aspen Panorama

The area around Jackson Lake Junction has so much to photograph...and that's just the abundant aspen trees. The area offers a beautiful view of the Tetons over Willow Flats and Jackson Lake. A cloudless sky at sunset had me searching for something else to photograph when I saw this small stand of aspen right at the junction. When I first stopped, they were side lit by the setting sun. Once the sun went behind the mountains, the light softened and this was what I saw.

Faded Gold

The trees were just starting to lose their leaves. I liked the collection of straight trunks with the late autumn colors. Even the ground cover was faded shades of red and orange.

Aspen Glow

Before the sun rose, the high clouds had caught a bit of color and reflected a hint of color onto the landscape.

A Walk In The Grass

A young bull moose walks along a small gully next to the road in Gros Ventre Campground. I had hoped that this bull would walk through the screen of cottonwood trees and continue towards the Gros Ventre River on the other side of the campground. It was an unexpected treat that he instead turned towards me and walked parallel to the road.

Moulton Dawn

High clouds skitter across the sky over the Grand Tetons. A slight pink color tinges the landscape just before the sun rises.

Autumn Moose

A bull moose wanders among the sagebrush just outside Gros Ventre Campground. The campground, at the south end of the park along the Gros Ventre River, has become a prime location for spotting moose wandering and grazing among the cottonwood trees. As with anywhere in Grand Teton, please maintain the required distance from this largest member of the deer family.

Changing seasons

Cool nights followed by crisp dawns signal the approaching Fall. Aspens and other deciduous trees start preparing for the cold, short days of winter, by shedding their leaves. As the leaves are cut off from the food supply of the tree, the chlorophyll (what makes leaves green) dies and the yellows, red, and oranges of sugar compounds shine through.

Aspen Gold

Smoke from regional wildland fires acted like a soft box diffusing the morning light giving the land a golden glow.

Teton Dawn

Some wispy high clouds skittered across the sky at sunrise over the Grand Tetons. As the sun rose, the clouds were tinged pale pink. The sun crested the eastern hills and bathed these magnificent mountains in shades of magenta, pink, salmon, and yellow-orange. A new day dawned as bull elk in rut bugled in the distance and the world awoke.

Morning at Mormon Row

A late fall morning along Mormon Row in Grand Teton National Park. The Teton Range had gotten snow the night before, and as the clouds broke the mountains peaked through.

Schwabacher Sunrise

Pink alpenglow lights up the peaks of the Teton Range. The Tetons are being reflected in calm water made by a small beaver dam.

Golden Abstract

This is a small grove of aspen trees along the road in Grand Teton National Park. Using a slow shutter speed of a 1/2 second and moving the camera, I created this abstract photograph. It's a fun technique to play around with as each photo comes out different.

Teton Alpen Glow

Just before sunrise, the peaks of the Tetons turned a pale maroon. The color only lasted a couple of minutes before the highest clouds turned a cool orange. I felt as though I was inside a giant softbox because the world seemed to glow the same cool orange.

Oxbow Morning

With there not being a cloud in the sky, I was hoping for some nice color just before sunrise. The Earth Shadow and Belt of Venus wern't the strongest I've ever seen, but it was still very beautiful. There was such a crowd up by the parking lot at Oxbow Bend, I decided to head down to the edge of the water for sunrise.

Autumn Road

This small grove of aspen on Cattleman's Road always has a nice diversity of autumn colors. The recent rain helped saturate the colors.

Dawn Light

Earth Shadow and the Belt of Venus color the pre-sunrise sky with pastel shades of pink, purple, and blue. The pale colors are reflected in Oxbow Bend.

Can You See Me?

This bull moose was intently watching a nearby fisherman. For his size, this bull was very adept at hiding in the brush.

The End of the Rainbow

Mormon Row Barn

This is one of the two famous barns along Mormon Row. This barn was owned by T. Alma Moulton and the other barn, which is to the right a short ways, was owned by John Moulton.
