Some cottonwoods in Lamar Valley. It had been really hazy due to the Antelope Fire burning nearby. As the sun was setting, the far valley wall fell into shadow. The cottonwoods in the valley floor stood out against the shadows.
This American White Pelican was fishing near LeHardy's Rapids. I don't have the opportunity to photograph such beautiful birds (usually they are out of reach of my lens). I spent almost an hour watching this pelican patiently waiting for a fish to swim by. This photo was awarded the Reserve Sweepstakes Award at the 2010 Gallatin County Fair Photography Contest.
This is Black Pool at West Thumb. Back in the 90s, Black Pool was much cooler and had a dark almost black color to it. Then it heated up, killed all the bacteria that helped give it the dark color, and turned this incredible blue color. It is my favorite hot spring at West Thumb because of the amazing color. Black Pool is also over 60 feet deep. This photo took a pretty green, fifth place, ribbon at the 2010 Gallatin County Fair Photography Contest.
