This bison was grazing near the road north of Old Faithful. Even in the heavy snow, the search for food must go on. Bison are so well insulated that snow collects on their fur without melting. Bison use their massive heads to sweep snow from grasses underneath. The massive hump is the muscle mass that helps bison sweep the snow aside.
I took this shot just before Old Faithful erupted. I liked the way the steam from the geyser and from Geyser Hill (the steam to the left of Old Faithful) drifted up and then curled over.
This is Little Miss Sunshine, coach 715. This is a Bombardier, created by Joseph-Armand Bombardier of Valcourt, Quebec, Canada. Bombariers began being used in Yellowstone for winter transportation in the late 60s. They were retired from service at the end of the 2016 winter season.
