I found this swan along the Firehole River preening. It was fascinating to watch as it rubbed it's beak against its feathers. I was hoping it would stretch its wings, but it didn't. I loved the graceful curve of it's neck as it paused for a moment before continuing to preen.
This bison was grazing near the road north of Old Faithful. Even in the heavy snow, the search for food must go on. Bison are so well insulated that snow collects on their fur without melting. Bison use their massive heads to sweep snow from grasses underneath. The massive hump is the muscle mass that helps bison sweep the snow aside.
I took this shot just before Old Faithful erupted. I liked the way the steam from the geyser and from Geyser Hill (the steam to the left of Old Faithful) drifted up and then curled over.
